Tenure-track position for PATHOLOGIST

The Department of Veterinary Sciences in the University of Wyoming seeks to fill a newly created tenure track position for an anatomic veterinary pathologist at the assistant professor level.  The job split is professional service - 65%; research - 20%; teaching - 10%, and university service - 5%.  The successful applicant will be an inquisitive, driven veterinary diagnostician with ACVP or ECVP certification.  A PhD is a plus, but not essential.  Interest in pathology of companion animals will be an advantage. The successful applicant will share responsibilities with four board certified anatomic pathologists who appreciate the value of field investigation using anatomical pathology, and its link to applied and basic research. 

Board eligible candidates will be considered for the position.  They would be hired into a non-tenure track position.  Once they achieve ACVP or ECVP certification, they would convert to tenure track at the level of an assistant professor. 

Your primary responsibility is to provide a top-notch diagnostic pathology services to clients of the Wyoming State Veterinary Laboratory. The laboratory has a diverse caseload of companion and food animals, mainly beef cattle, and a steady flow of wildlife accessions. Your teaching opportunities include courses offered to microbiology and pre-veterinary majors, as well as development of new courses in your area of expertise. You will participate in collaborative research efforts and/or develop an independently funded research program.   Departmental research strengths are in diseases of wildlife indigenous to the Rocky Mountain West, inherited and infectious diseases of domestic animals, diseases at the wildlife/livestock interface, comparative and veterinary neuropathology, and transmissible spongiform encephalopathies..

The land-grant University of Wyoming is the only university in the state. It is based in the city of Laramie, population 27,000. Laramie is in a scenic rural area of southeastern Wyoming with excellent outdoor recreational opportunities.  The Department of Veterinary Sciences is growing unit with 11 faculty members in diverse disciplines, most of whom have a 50% or greater commitment to professional service. The WSVL is fully accredited by the AAVLD.  The department enjoys close working relationships with the Wyoming Fish and Game Department, the Wyoming Livestock Board, and the Wyoming Department of Health.
